Accelerated TMS and Theta-Burst Stimulation
Quick Answer
Accelerated TMS at Bluebird TMS uses intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS), an FDA-cleared TMS protocol that completes a session in a few minutes. For eligible patients, several sessions can be scheduled per day so a course takes days or a couple of weeks rather than six or more.
Theta-burst, briefly
Standard TMS delivers pulses in a steady rhythm for 20 to 40 minutes. Theta-burst delivers short bursts patterned on the brain's own rhythms, finishing a session in roughly three to ten minutes. iTBS was FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder in 2018.
What accelerated scheduling is
Multiple iTBS sessions in one day with rest periods between. It can suit people who cannot commit to weeks of daily visits or who need a shorter timeline. Whether it fits you is a clinical decision made with your psychiatrist; a standard daily course is sometimes the better choice.
What we do not claim
Accelerated TMS is not a guarantee of faster or better results, and we do not use proprietary protocol names we are not licensed to offer. You will know exactly which protocol and schedule you are receiving.
